DIY Halloween Costume Idea: Champagne and RosÉ Bottles

Halloween is just a few weeks away, so its about time for some costume ideas! I'm back at it with the queen of DIY Halloween Costumes, Amy of The Daily Amy! If you've read here awhile, you might remember we also posted a Bad and Boujee duo costume 2 years ago.  So this year, Amy got the idea to team up again, and dress as rosé and champagne bottles. Although we think it is a great duo costume, it could just as easily be done alone as well!

I think I've made it pretty clear through my previous content how rosé is my wine of choice, and this was so much fun to photograph! Amy broke down everything you will need to make these fun costumes from materials, to how she put the glitter "cork" headbands together in her post, here! Be sure to follow Amy for more colorful style, glimpses into her life in Charlotte, and a little bit of Disney!

Lavender Pleated Dress

Pleated surplice dress c/o (use code "Q4Caralina15" for 15% off!) | Similar earrings | J. Crew "Academy" loafer mules | Gigi New York "Madison" bag | Similar sunglasses

It is just starting to feel like fall in Charlotte. By that I mean, temps below 80 degrees. So I'm still not quite ready for sweaters or jackets, and have been living in long sleeve dresses. I love the shade of lavender in this dress, and I have always been a fan of any pleated skirt! Although for my fellow petite friends, the snap on the top was a little too low for my liking, and I have it pinned up a few inches higher. I've styled it with these loafer mules I found on major sale at the end of last winter. They have been a great shoe to dress up for work or down for the weather that I think is in between wearing sandals and boots!

Red Eyelet Top

This eyelet top is a little different for me, but I've been drawn to just about anything red lately! I've styled it more casually for these photos, but I've also been wearing it to work with black pants and gold loafers. I'm also so excited about these booties I found on major sale last spring from Madewell. They didn't bring back the exact style this year but this Carina style is very similar! I'm also still obsessed with their jeans. I got this pair towards the end of last winter and I know they will be a favorite throughout this fall1

Black Wrap Dress

J. Crew wrap dress (on sale!) | Similar velvet heels | Similar bag | J. Crew earrings | Similar sunglasses

Back at it with a "fall appropriate" but also "won't sweat your face off" option for this current weather. Although I did experience some fall weather at a wedding in Baltimore this past weekend. But back to the outfit, I scored this dress on major sale over the summer, and it has been perfect for work. You might have remembered the blue and white stripe I version I posted back in the spring, yeah it's the same dress. It is also available in solid navy and in petite sizes! Although I did buy the regular size in both colors. As much as I like to round up a few colors if I really love a specific style, I think two is enough of this one. I have styled it a few times with a fun colored flat, but I like all blush accessories as my neutral this time!

Fitness Friday XVI

*original post

Welcome back to Fitness Friday! I have a lot of injury progress to report, not so much on the food front...but rounded up some of the cutest activewear picks for fall too! In case you missed it, here is last month's post, the first one back after a few months off with my hip injury.

Week of 9/9-9/15
I spent most of the week traveling, so I just did my home exercises twice
I also walked a 5k with TJ's family

Week of 9/16-9/22
Core and Flow (aerial yoga) at Air Aerial Fitness
FlyFit at Flywheel Sports
Exercises at home twice

Week of 9/23-9/29
Centre at Fit Atelier
Ballet Fit Theory at Fit Atelier
(P.S. you can now stream Fit Atelier classes at home!!)
Exercises at home twice
Beach biking at Hilton Head

Week of 9/30-yesterday
Ballet Fit Theory at Fit Atelier
Sweat Fusion at Sweat Method
Exercises at home 3 times

I made it back to 7 classes this month! Sure, it isn't much compared to what I was doing before the injury. But it is so much progress, and I am SO excited about it! Six months ago, my hip was in pain just sitting in a chair. I was so worried for at least a month (at its worst point), that I was going to need surgery. I'm so lucky that after strengthening exercises on my own, and a few physical therapy appointments, I have gotten back to classes like dance cardio! I mentioned in my last Fitness Friday that I had started to see a physical therapist, and have been going weekly since then. I very quickly gained so much mobility back after just a few sessions of hands-on work and figuring out how to work around the injury. All of the muscles in my hip flexors (going into my core), my inner thighs, and my glutes had gotten so tense trying to protect the injury, and I don't think that was going to go away on its own. I have also been taking notes on what still bothers my hip, or what I was surprised I was able to do, as I have been taking classes. I have learned so much about the best ways to modify movements, how I can gradually work up to certain movements, and how some of the exercises that were still bothering my hip really just needed better form.  I think it has also been very helpful that my physical therapist was also a dancer and she has gone through labral tears herself. If you're in the area and used to dance, I have had the best experience with Bridget at Carolina Sports Clinic!

  1. I've been doing a lot of traveling this month. So I have been making more quick dinners, and don't really have any fun new recipes to share. I would say I will try to have at least one for next month's post, but I'm traveling most weekends this month as well...
  2. On the snack front, now that I can do some cardio again, I am working my way back to high protein macros. One of the ways I have been doing that is by making a slightly modified version of this smoothie bowl recipe!
  3. For breakfast I have been on an oatmeal kick lately. I have been making a maple brown sugar packet and add in peanut butter and strawberries!

Olive Green Skirt

Photos by Deeana Kourtney Photography

Olive skirt c/o Chicwish | Stripe tee | Similar heeled sandals | Similar bag | Similar earrings | Similar sunglasses

This right here, is how I do fall. It's still 90 degrees outside, so you still will not be catching me in sweaters for awhile. I expanded a little more on that on Instagram yesterday, and wrote an entire post (coincidentally also on October 2nd) about it last year! So, cotton in dark colors is how I get through, until it is actually cool enough for real fall clothes. This skirt from Chicwish can be such a statement, the perfect transition piece for the light fabric in a fall color. If you aren't into the olive green, it is also available in mustard and tan!
