Casual Memorial Day Outfit

I tend to wear red, white, and blue quite often (as seen recently in this post), but I always wear it on American holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day. So here is a casual patriotic look I plan on wearing for Memorial Day. But could be worn whenever, this is probably something I would typically wear to class when I was it was warm out, although that wasn't very often in Erie, PA. But I just there for my graduation ceremony (you can read more about that here) and I already miss it again!

1 Set 3 Ways: Matching Set Collab Part 2

Polo Ralph Lauren (kid's) floral skirt | Similar swiss dot shirt | Similar blue heels | Loren Hope Palmer necklace c/o Rocksbox | J. Crew Factory bracelet | Similar mini tote | Karen Walker sunglasses (rented) c/o Ditto (use code "CARALINASTYLE" for your first month free!)

In case you missed my last outfit post, I told the story of how I found this matching set. I also styled the top and skirt together, and today I'm styling the skirt separately. I love the versatility of matching sets.  I've teamed up with Maddy of The Black Barcode blog to show you how we style matching sets! She is also styling the shorts from her matching set with other pieces, and next week we are styling the tops with other pieces. I have worn this look to church and dressed down a little with flats for work. And clearly my combination of catholic school and dance training makes me feel the need to twirl around in every pleated skirt I can find!

Graduation Weekend

Last December, I graduated from Mercyhurst University, a small catholic school in Erie, Pennsylvania. We do not have a fall semester graduation ceremony, so last weekend I headed back up there with my family for all of the graduation festivities. I reflected on my whole experience more in this post just after leaving Erie, and this post a few weeks after. I had so much fun this weekend, and it was so great to see all of my friends again! And I even got to see some extended family members that I don't get to see very often.

Since I graduated a semester, early I never really felt senioritis or that "done with college" feeling. I really tried to cherish everything that happened my last semester, knowing that my experience was ending before my friends. I wasn't quite ready to leave in December, but I'm glad I did. I think if I stayed I would have been sick of it all, and not appreciated this weekend nearly as much as I did.

Whenever I missed my friends over the last few months, I always told myself that I had graduation weekend to see them again. And once I knew that was ending, it made me really emotional. I may or may not have cried during the ceremony...I guess I was just really lucky to have an experience so great, that it made saying goodbye so hard.

My best friend, Hannah has been on the blog quite a few times before. We have lived together since sophomore year, and I have missed her so much this last semester!

A huge thank you to my family for making all of this possible!

The gorgeous ladies of the dance department
If you didn't know, I originally went to Mercyhurst for the ballet based dance program, and graduated with a minor in dance.

My best friends since freshman year, we all lived on the same floor and stayed friends until the end!

We had a little party with all of my friends in the last photo and their families, it was such a nice way to celebrate all together.

Well, all good things must come to and end right?
I think I will always look back on these last few years as the best time of my life!

Graduation Packing List

It may be weird that I have a packing list for my college graduation, considering most people are still living near campus when they graduate. If you are a new reader, I graduated a semester early last December from Mercyhurst University, a small school in Erie, PA. And since then, I have been living back at home in North Carolina. Because Mercyhurst is a small school, we do not have a graduation ceremony for fall semester graduates. So, this weekend I am going back up to walk with all of my friends! I am so excited, I have missed my friends so much! And it will be so great to see them all before we all go off into the real world. So, here is what I plan on packing for the somewhat chilly (for May) and always unpredictable, Erie weather.

1.-4. My graduation dress is a last season Lilly Pulitzer I got from their online sale in January, but this one is pretty similar! I plan on wearing it with ankle strap heels, Mercyhurst Laker green Kendra Scott earrings, and my pearl strand.

5.-7. I plan on wearing some comfy stripe tees like this one from Madewell, and this one from J. Crew, for the 8 hour car rides, and this simple tank for going out.

8. I lived in this Factory version of the J. Crew field jacket in blue, during in the spring when I was a student in Erie, so I think it will be a perfect layer for the weekend.

9.-10. Also for the car rides and just about anything, these J. Crew skinny jeans are a little loose on me, making them really comfortable. And my favorite white jeans for a more spring feel when I'm not dressed up this weekend.

11.-12. My gold ballet flats I wear probably 4 days a week, and these wedges are pretty similar to my neutral ones I have been wearing non-stop lately.

13.-15. Some versatile accessories like a neutral mini tote, colorful Lilly Pulitzer scarf (I have several different prints, not sure which one I'm bringing yet), and some great sunglasses that go with everything like these from Stella and Dot!

I'll probably have a recap post or an outfit post with my dress sometime soon. But until then, follow along with the weekend's activities on Instagram, and snapchat: caralinastyle

1 Set 3 Ways: A Matching Set Collab Part 1

Polo Ralph Lauren (kid's) floral matching set | Similar heeled sandals | Loren Hope Petite Alex necklace (rented) c/o Rocksbox (use code "caralinastylexoxo" for your first month free!) | Dagne Dover tiny tote (borrowed from Sarah) | Loren Hope Sophia stud earrings | Similar sunglasses

I have been loving the matching set trend lately!
I had my heart set on this Lilly Pulitzer crop top and skirt set when it came out back in April. I tried it on, and it unfortunately had a very odd fit. I was at Belk to try on the Lilly set, and I like to check Belk's Ralph Lauren section of the kid's department every once in a while. I'm 5'2" and usually wear a 0 or 00, so I can still wear some of some kid's clothes, and I like to see if there is anything that doesn't really look like it was made for kids.
So, while I was there I found this white seersucker matching set in the Ralph Lauren section. I liked it, but I thought it sort of looked too much like a tennis outfit. So when I went online to see they had the same set in this floral print, and on sale from Bloomingdale's for $43, I couldn't resist it! For reference for my fellow petites, I am wearing a size 14. And as cute as the set is together, I love how the skirt can be worn with a lot of different tops, and the top can go with other skirts, shorts, or pants.

I've teamed up with Maddy of The Black Barcode blog to show you how we style matching sets! We have done quite a few of these collabs before like last summer, last spring, and earlier last year! Today, we have both styled the top and bottom together. Next Wednesday, we are styling the tops with other pieces, and the week after that we are styling the bottoms with other pieces.

Don't forget to check out Maddy's post, to see how she styled her adorable navy gingham matching set!
