Blue Gingham on the Blue Ridge Parkway

Asos gingham dress (sold out, similar here and here) | Similar Sperry sneakers | J. Crew Parker monogrammed crossbody | Stella and Dot Parker sunglasses c/o | Similar Kendra Scott necklace | Gorjana Cersi necklace (rented) c/o Rocksbox (use code "caralinastylexoxo" for your first month free!)

I wore this outfit when I took a day trip to Blowing Rock, NC with my blogger bestie Annaliese of Southern Belle in Training a few weekends ago. We spent the day walking around the downtown Blowing Rock area seeing the Art in the Park event, doing some shopping, stopping by their art museum, and seeing Cone Manor. It was so much fun, and I was comfortable all day in this loose dress and canvas sneakers. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have already seen the below photo, it is one of the gorgeous overlooks on the Blue Ridge parkway on the way to the Blowing Rock/Boone area.

Eyelet Under $100

One | Two | Three | Four | Five | Six | Seven | Eight |
Nine | Ten | Eleven | Twelve

Eyelet is always such a nice, feminine detail for summer. I feel like it has been a little more popular this summer than it has in the past, and I am glad that it is! I only have a few eyelet pieces myself, like the eyelet skirt from this post and the eyelet dress from this post. But, with pretty pieces like these all under $100, I think I'll be adding some more!

Colorblock Shirt

Photos by Deeana Kourtney Photography

Polo Ralph Lauren outlet button down (not online, similar here, here, and here) | Eyelet skirt c/o via ThredUp (very similar here and here) | Jack Rogers Navajo sandals | Stella and Dot Parker sunglasses c/o | Kendra Scott Elle earrings | Similar pearl necklace | Similar Kate Spade bag

I found this fun colorblock button down while Annaliese of Southern Belle in Training and I were shopping at the outlets in Blowing Rock a few weeks ago.  After seeing shirts like this in men's sizes from places like Brooks Brothers and Vineyard Vines, I've been looking for a women's version for quite a while. I found this one, that I like to call my "frat shirt" for only $40 at the Polo Ralph Lauren outlet, and I just love it. I have several similar shirts in the solid color version, and I wear them to work quite often. And I have had those since high school, making some of them 5 or 6 years old, so I know I'll be wearing this one for a long time!

You may notice that this set of photos looks a little different than my usual outfit post. I went to visit Annaliese a few weeks ago, and she has been working with Deeana Kourtney Photography on her blog recently. Annaliese had to re-schedule her shoot with Deeana that week, which worked out for when I was coming to stay with her, so we shot some outfits together. It was so much fun, and Deeana is so talented! If you're in the Charlotte area, she does events, weddings, senior photos, engagement photos, family photos, and events!

Weekly Update 6/24

Life:
  • I had so much fun in Charlotte last weekend, Annaliese of Southern Belle in Training did a post about her housewarming party that I went to and did a little of the planning beforehand.
  • We also shot some outfits together with her photographer, I'm so excited to share them in Monday's post!
  • And this weekend I have no plans. It is supposed to rain a lot, so I'll probably just work on some GMAT prep, which I really need to do more often.

Nightly Skincare Routine

I've been trying to do more beauty related posts lately, so I thought I would share my nightly skincare routine! These are just the products before I go to sleep, cleanser, makeup remover, detox mask, lip treatment, and acne treatment. If you have oily or acne prone skin like I do, I hope some of these products may be able to help your skin like they have helped mine.

1. Kiehl's Ultra Facial oil-free cleanser
I love this cleanser, I've mentioned it before in my makeup/skincare favorites post earlier in the spring. It's very simple, and feels like it's really cleaning my skin. However, it's really important to avoid your eyes when using it, and use a separate eye makeup remover. I tried to use it as an all-in-one sort of product the first time, and it really burns the eyes. So with that being said, it is the first product I use on my skin at night.

2. Neutrogena oil-free eye makeup remover
This is just a nice product that will easily remove your eye makeup. I tend to wear a lot of mascara that is hard to get off with some makeup removers, but this one brings it right off. And it's oil-free so I know it won't cause any breakouts. I apply it right after I use the cleanser I mentioned above.

3. Colleen Rothschild detox face mask (c/o)
I've been getting lots of samples of face masks lately from Birchbox, so I have tried quite a few over the last few months. But this one is definitely my favorite! It has charcoal in it, that sort of makes you look like a statue while it is on your face, but it makes my skin feel so nice and soft. I use this about 2 or 3 times a week after cleanser and makeup remover. And you can get this face mask, or any other regular priced Colleen Rothschild product 20% off with code "CARA20" for the next week!

4. Epiduo topical acne gel (prescription)
I'm not sure what I would do without Epiduo. I've been using it for the last few years, you can read more about it and other acne-friendly skincare in this post. It is always the last thing on my skin, moisturizer can go over it, but I usually only moisturize in the morning before makeup.

5. Ever skin anti-aging lip treatment (c/o Stella and Dot)
I have been using this for the last few months, and I think it really makes a difference on my lips. They used to be really dry most of the time, and they are much more moisturized since I started using this. I notice a difference when I wear lipsticks that aren't very hydrating. It may be a coincidence because I started using it as it got warmer and my skin usually becomes less dry, but I really love this product! I use it after I have washed my face and taken all of my makeup off, before I put my Epiduo gel on.

Pastel Shirtdress

There were snow-cones for sale at the park we shot these photos, Sarah and I couldn't resist!

Modcloth "At a Blocks For Words" Dress, also available on Shoptiques (both on sale!)| Manic Trout Bette Parfait Triage necklace c/o | Loren Hope Sophia studs | Similar Kate Spade bag | Jack Rogers wedges | Prada sunglasses (rented) c/o Ditto (use code "CARALINASTYLE" for your first month free!) | Ciate "Strawberry Milkshake" nail polish

I have been wanting a shirtdress since last summer, but never found one I really loved available in my size. I saw this one on the Modcloth site a few months ago and thought about buying it, but the reviews weren't that great about how it fit. When it went on sale during Memorial Day weekend I decided to just go for it and see if the reviews were wrong. Well, they were! I think it fits perfectly, the fabric is really light, it's fully lined, and how fun are these pastel colors?
I'm also convinced this necklace that was sent to me from Manic Trout was made to go with this dress. It also comes in pink with orange, clear with blush, and two different shades of purple!
