I made it back to 7 classes this month! Sure, it isn't much compared to what I was doing before the injury. But it is so much progress, and I am SO excited about it! Six months ago, my hip was in pain just sitting in a chair. I was so worried for at least a month (at its worst point), that I was going to need surgery. I'm so lucky that after strengthening exercises on my own, and a few physical therapy appointments, I have gotten back to classes like dance cardio! I mentioned in my last Fitness Friday that I had started to see a physical therapist, and have been going weekly since then. I very quickly gained so much mobility back after just a few sessions of hands-on work and figuring out how to work around the injury. All of the muscles in my hip flexors (going into my core), my inner thighs, and my glutes had gotten so tense trying to protect the injury, and I don't think that was going to go away on its own. I have also been taking notes on what still bothers my hip, or what I was surprised I was able to do, as I have been taking classes. I have learned so much about the best ways to modify movements, how I can gradually work up to certain movements, and how some of the exercises that were still bothering my hip really just needed better form.  I think it has also been very helpful that my physical therapist was also a dancer and she has gone through labral tears herself. If you're in the area and used to dance, I have had the best experience with Bridget at Carolina Sports Clinic!

Food

  1. I've been doing a lot of traveling this month. So I have been making more quick dinners, and don't really have any fun new recipes to share. I would say I will try to have at least one for next month's post, but I'm traveling most weekends this month as well...
  2. On the snack front, now that I can do some cardio again, I am working my way back to high protein macros. One of the ways I have been doing that is by making a slightly modified version of this smoothie bowl recipe!
  3. For breakfast I have been on an oatmeal kick lately. I have been making a maple brown sugar packet and add in peanut butter and strawberries!
